Could you imaging decreasing your gas costs by 20%? Well, if you take an active role in managing you fuel consumption, this is possible.
Or, the other way to look at it, would be that you can increase your gas mileage by 20%. Sounds far fetched? Not really. It is more possible than ever these days.
The first thing you can do right now, today, is to slow down. Do not accelerate so fast from a resting, or idle, position. Just a gradual increase help tremendously.
Second, make sure the gas cap is on tight. If it is loose, you will end up with too much oxygen in the tank, which will cause more gas to be left over after the engine uses it. This is a real simple fix. Just make sure the gas cap is on pretty tight after each fill up. I always ensure my cap clicks once.
Third, put some air in your tires. Your car or truck tires are designed to operate at an optimal air pressure. You can find this air pressure rating on the side of the tire. At least once a month, you should check the air pressure in the tires, and ensure it is filled up to the designed air pressure. This saves wear on the tires, and also keeps the car going straight. Which means, the car does not need to work as hard to keep it straight, which means less gas.
Let’s get rid of the myth right now that somehow super unleaded gas is better for your car than regular unleaded. It is not. It does not increase gas mileage in any way, so why buy it? Car owners are scared into thinking they need the best gas to keep their car running, but that is so far from the truth. Just stick with regular unleaded and you will save 5-6% on gas right now.
There are so many tips to save gas out there, and these are only a few of them. With the economics and the market prices of gas currently, I would suggest we all do our part and put in place as many tips to save gas as we can.
